What subforum would we use for a post directly related to a derail of a reader post? It seems in poor taste to use the reader letters forum.
Should we look at the topic out of context and choose the most appropriate forum based on that? Is it okay to link to the related derailing thread?
Where does this kind of post go?

Non-moderator opinion but I would suggest the Reader Letters if it spins off a thread that can be found at Capt. A. (i.e. even though it's about the comments & not the post, a link back there might be relevant.)

It could go in either, I think. If it's related to the letter then it would make sense to have it in the reader letters forum. If it's a total change of subject then pop it elsewhere. It's fine to link back to the original conversation.
