Friends of Captain Awkward

I was working on a post in the "I need help!" area, and apparently took too long putting my thoughts in order. When I went to submit it, I had to log in again, and when I went back to the previous page the content of my post was gone. Is there a timer setting I can change to keep this from happening...

I don't remember doing that but it's possible. I don't suppose there is a way to reverse that?

The only online forum I have much experience with is on ravelry.com, and I'm sure some of my newbie disorientation here is due to how it is set up a little different to the way the Rav forums work (eg usernames/avatars on the right instead of left).
